Zugspitze Summit – A Walking Tour

Zugspitze is a mountain peak in the German Alps that lies south of the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, about an hour drive from Munich in Bavaria, and the Austria–Germany border is on its western summit.

At 2,962 m (9,718 ft) above sea level, it is the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains and the highest mountain in Germany.

Ample parking is available at the base of the cable car station

Zugspitze is accessible via cable car from the base of the mountain next to scenic lake Eibsee.

At the top of the summit several viewpoints are available as well as a weather station, souvenir shops and several eateries on the German and the Austrian side.

Visitors can cross the border from Germany to Tyrol, Austria atop the peak and access cable cars down to Austria. See the photo tour below and the video clip at the end of the blog for more details.
