Hey there, fellow travel enthusiasts! As a die-hard Formula 1 fan (which is happening this weekend), I couldn’t resist the opportunity to revisit Monaco post-pandemic, even though there wasn’t a Grand Prix happening during our trip. And let me tell you, experiencing the principality without the usual tourist hustle and in the aftermath of COVID-19 was a delightful surprise!
Our home base for this adventure was Mont Boron, a swanky neighborhood in Nice known for its modern villas and stunning “Belle Epoque” mansions. Fun fact: Mont Boron was once a popular spot for celebrities like Elton John and Sean Connery! The area’s history is as rich as its residents, with ancient ruins dating back to the Bronze Age.

Monaco, Post-Pandemic
Now, onto the main event – Monaco! I was expecting the usual crowd, but boy, was I in for a treat. The pandemic had left the principality bare, almost like a private playground for the few visitors who ventured there. We practically had the place to ourselves!
Picture this: the iconic changing of the guard ceremony at the Prince’s Palace, usually swarmed by hundreds of onlookers. Well, this time, it felt like a private show just for us! There were maybe five people there, max. Talk about an exclusive experience!
Jardins Saint-Martin

The Jardins Saint-Martin, a lush oasis nestled on the cliffs, was another highlight. Without the usual crowds, we could leisurely stroll through the gardens, soaking in the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. It was like having our own secret garden in the heart of Monaco.
Formula 1 in Monaco

Now, let’s talk about the reason behind my nostalgia – the upcoming Formula 1 weekend in Monaco! The principality has been hosting the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix since 1929, and it’s a race like no other. The narrow, winding streets of Monte Carlo transform into a high-speed circuit, with drivers navigating hairpin turns and zooming past iconic landmarks like the Casino and the Hotel de Paris.
Monaco and F1 – A Symbiotic Relationship

Monaco and Formula 1 have a symbiotic relationship that benefits both parties immensely. The glamour and prestige of the Monaco Grand Prix attract the world’s elite, cementing the principality’s status as a playground for the rich and famous. In turn, Formula 1 gains a showcase event that epitomizes the sport’s luxury and exclusivity.
The Evolution of Monaco’s F1
Over the years, the Monaco Grand Prix has undergone significant changes. Safety improvements have been made to the circuit, and the event has embraced sustainability initiatives. Yet, the essence of the race remains the same – a thrilling spectacle that pushes drivers to their limits on the unforgiving streets of Monte Carlo.

Conclusion
Our second visit to Monaco, though not during a Formula 1 weekend, was an unforgettable experience. The post-pandemic calm allowed us to appreciate the principality’s charm in a whole new light. As the engines rev up for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, I can’t help but feel grateful for the unique opportunity we had to rediscover the magic of Monaco. Until next time, à bientôt!
