Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and located near the scenic Eastern Alps filled with Mountains, passes and beautiful lakes. One of the most popular attraction in this part of Europe is Lake Bled in the town of Bled, Slovenia. In the Fall of 2022, we decided to visit Lake Bled after an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn in Ljubljana.
The drive from Ljubjana to Bled takes approximately 45 mins (55 km) through a scenic highway northbound toward the region of Kranjska Gora. Once you exit the highway the scenery is beautiful with forest colors with the Alps far away as a backdrop. This is especially scenic in Autumn.
Once we reached Bled, parking by the lake was easy. There is a scenic walking trail around the lake with restaurants and boat docks spread around. One key attraction of the lake is the picturesque Bled Castle, located on a small island in the middle of the lake.
You can rent a boat and row to the island, but in our case we opted the easier and faster route of riding on a passenger boat with a guide. Once we reached the island, the castle was a short hike up the hill and offered amazing view as well as a cafe and souvenir shop for some tasty treats and shopping.
Overall, we highly recommend including Lake Bled and Ljubjana on your visit to the Balkans or nearby parts of Eastern Europe. Watch the Road Trip video below for a front row passenger view of our trip!
