In July 2024, we had the pleasure of visiting the Kunsthaus Art Museum in Graz, Austria. (Kunsthaus, meaning “art house”) This trip was not just about appreciating art but also about diving into the rich history of Graz and the iconic figures who have called this city home.

With a population of over 300,000, Graz is known for its well-preserved historical town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city’s architectural landscape is a blend of medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, making it a visual treat for visitors.
A Brief History of Graz

The Kunsthaus Graz, often referred to as the “Friendly Alien,” is an architectural marvel designed by British architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier. To celebrate Graz’s role as European Capital of Culture in 2003, the stunning Kunsthaus Graz, or Graz Art Museum, was constructed. This museum is known for its unique, organic shape and its biomorphic structure, which has become an iconic landmark in Graz.
