Swiss Alps Road Trip via Interlaken

Interlaken is a popular and charming Swiss town located between two lakes with breathtaking view of the Alps. While the town itself is famous for its charming gardens, walks and many outdoor excursion opportunities, it is also an ideal base to explore the Jungfrau region.

Our suggested route from Interlaken first goes to Grindelwald, then Lauterbrunnen and takes less than 2 hours total trip time, taking into account some slow downs in high tourist traffic areas during busy season. The trip can be done in one day but given the many attractions of these locations, a multi-day plan is recommended. The route map is shown below.

In Grindelwald, 3 famous mountains to explore are Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. The connection to these mountains via train and cable cars start at Grindelwald cable car station. The highest train station in Europe sits on Jungfrau. The ‘Eiger Express’ can take visitors to Eiger Glacier in 15 mins which had connection to Jungfrau.

On the other side of the Eiger Mountain is the world famous waterfall which can be viewed up close from the charming village of Lauterbrunnen. A short drive from Grindelwald takes us to this popular location. Parking near the waterfall and taking the walking trail admiring the view is an experience not to be missed! There are also additional villages that can be driven to or within hiking distance, offering magnificent view of the entire Jungfrau region.
