Europe Road Trip – Driving to Lago di Braies

Lake Braies, also known as Pragser Wildsee or Lago di Braies, is a lake in the Prags Dolomites in South Tyrol, Italy. The lake is famous for its scenic view and a popular destination for tourists in the Dolomites.

The lake is surrounded by mountains and not located near a major city. There are some accommodations by the lake and in nearby villages. The major nearby towns connected by highway are Brixen, South Tyrol in the west and Lienz, Austria in the east.

There is a hotel, bus stop and multiple parking lots right next to the lake

We drove to the lake from the town of Kastelruth, known as the gateway to the Dolomites, through highways and mountains. Below are some pictures from our tour around the lake. Don’t miss the scenic road trip video at the end of this article!

The lake has a lovely walking trail through the surrounding mountains
Boats are available for rental for a quick tour around the lake
There are plenty of spots to take scenic photos as well as designated areas for drone flights
The lake can get very busy with tourists in the summer season but relatively quiet in October when the colors are amazing!
